Curriculum

All of our classrooms, infants to preschool, will be utilized the Innovations curriculum. Through this curriculum each child will be able to reach, and surpass, the learning standards set out by the State of Missouri.  Students will also be assessed through various means like checklists, observation notes, and portfolio folders. Students here at Bright Stars Learning Academy will also be able to learn foreign languages and American Sign Language.

Assessments

Our teachers will be utilizing assessment checklists after each lesson unit to see where their students are at in their development. They will also be using portfolios that will allow the students to pick our pieces of their own work they would like to showcase along with activity pictures, and observation notes that will allow parents to see how much their child(ren) have progressed throughout the year. Bright Stars Learning Academy will also be implementing the use of the Ages & Stages Questionnaire ASQ-3 for all of our infants through preschoolers.

We will be utilizing the services provided by First Steps, and inclusion services provided by the Child Care Subsidy Department. First Steps provides professional referral services for children who have developmental and physical disorders and/or disabilities while they are at our center and at home.

Technology in the Classroom

Certain learning applications will be used in the classroom to help our students be prepared for entering kindergarten. The two applications that will be used in our toddler and preschool classes will be ABCMouse and Khan Kids.  The cost for ABCMouse will automatically be included in the tuition price, and students will have the ability to access their accounts at home as long as they are enrolled at Bright Stars. Khan Kids is a free application that will help the students supplement their learning, and can be downloaded at home as well.
